Studio Brief 1 - A Creative Strategy - Part 1 - Molly Lester

Molly Lester is a former animation student who graduated last year. I decided to contact her as I know she has been collaborating with Girl Gang which is something else I am interested in. I know that she has made a successful name for herself in leeds through her illustrations, and I have seen her work displayed in north bar.

I messaged her through facebook as I have her as a friend. I follow her on instagram too, but I rarely use instagram at the moment.

Full message:

Hey Molly! Hope you’re well! I’m just about to graduate and be thrown into the world of art and was just wondering if you could take the time to answer some quick questions about your transition into a successful free-lance animator and illustrator after graduating.

What has been the best way for you to get your work noticed more?

Are there any significant projects that you have taken part in that have helped you gain success as a female illustrator in Leeds?

I struggle with confidence in my work and it has constantly affected my growth as a practitioner. Have you ever experienced this and if so how have you overcome this?

Do you ever struggle with creative blocks and how do you tackle this?

At what point did you feel comfortable to charge money for work?

Hope to hear back from you man! Any additional advice would be muchly appreciated!
:)

Molly got back to me over facebook and gave me some great advice. she told me that confidence is key, and to always charge for my work. Being friendly with artist in my area is key as well for my growth as a practitioner. She mentioned other things but I don't feel comfortable posting the response.
